ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose announced today that Greg Roman has been named its head women’s tennis coach.

“We are excited to have Greg Roman join our staff as our next Head Women’s Tennis Coach. Greg brings extensive teaching and coaching experience to our program and he will challenge our student-athletes to excel,” said Cathy Haker, Director of Athletics and Recreation. “He is focused on rebuilding our program and the addition of partial athletic scholarship opportunities for tennis will allow him to recruit talented student-athletes who will be successful in the classroom and on the court.”

Roman brings a vast amount of experience from both the collegiate and private sectors to the position. He spent 1997-2001 at Union College, the last two years as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs after serving as an assistant throughout her first two years there.

He has served as the Tennis Professional at Tri-City Fitness in Latham, N.Y. since March 2010 and has held the Tennis Director position at the Colonie Golf & Country Club since 2009. His previous experience includes stints as the Assistant Professional at the Dunes Golf & Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and as the Director of Tennis at Skyline Sports & Health in Falls Church, Va.

Roman, who earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and management from the University at Albany in 1996, compiled a 32-15 record throughout his four years with the women’s team at Union. He led the Dutchwomen to a third place finish at the 1997 state tournament. The team furthermore set a single-season school record with 10 victories that year.

Roman also coached the first three Union players to ever be regionally ranked, including Lauren Stellato who won state championships from the No. 1 position in both her junior and senior years.
