Five Northeast-10 Student-Athletes Collect Capital One Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Honors

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - Five Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes have been selected to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s At Large Team, it was announced on Thursday. The At-Large teams are selected by CoSIDA.

Collecting the academic honors was Adelphi University grad student Nick Watson (lacrosse), Assumption College junior Brennen Shaw (ice hockey), Southern Connecticut State University junior Daniel Elliot (swimming & diving), Southern New Hampshire University grad student Juan Arango-Campo (tennis) and So. New Hampshire senior Joe Daly (lacrosse).

Watson earned his spot on the All-District Team with a 4.00 GPA in the field of sports management. Watson has played in 13 games this season for the Panthers, who host LIU Post on Sunday at 1:00 pm in the NCAA Division II Semifinal round. He has a total of 53 points behind 36 goals and 17 assists.

Shaw, a Presque Isle, Maine native, is a Business major with a  3.96 GPA and had a goal and seven assists for eight points on the ice this year for the Greyhounds.

Elliot is an exercise science major with a 3.68 GPA and finished first in five events  (400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 100 fly, 200 freestyle relay) at February’s Northeast-10 Swimming & Diving Championships.

Arango-Campo (pictured) was named to the 2014 Northeast-10 All-Championship Team after helping lead the Penmen to the conference title over Merrimack College. A native of Armenia Quindio, Colombia, the grad student has a 3.35 GPA as an International Business major.

Daly appeared in all 15 games for the Penmen, registering three goals, and in the classroom has a 3.92 GPA as an English major.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
