NE-10 Gets Two Teams in for First Time Since 2008
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the first time since 2008, the NE-10 will have two teams in the NCAA Division II Football Championship. As announced Sunday evening, the LIU Post Pioneers and Assumption Greyhounds will both represent the NE-10 in the tournament's Super Regional 1.
The Pioneers (11-0) claimed the No. 2 seed in the region and will host Winston-Salem (9-2) of the CIAA in the first round on Saturday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. The Greyhounds (9-2) snagged the No. 6 seed in the region and will hit the road to battle at Shepherd (10-0) of the Mountain East Conference.
LIU Post and Assumption competed in the NE-10 Championship Game this past Saturday with the Pioneers coming away victorious, 43-23.
It was the second NE-10 title for LIU Post in the last three years, and it is also the second NCAA tournament appearance for the Pioneers in the last three seasons. LIU Post last made the NCAA Championship in 2014, falling to Virginia State, 28-17, on the road in the first round.
Assumption earns a bid into the NCAA Championship for the second consecutive season after making its first-ever appearance in the tournament a year ago. The Greyhounds topped Bowie State, 51-29, at home in the first round last season before suffering a heartbreaking 41-39 defeat on the road to Slippery Rock in the second round.
