Pioneers Top Northeast-10 Field Hockey Preseason Coaches’ Poll

LIU Post Selected to Win NE-10 Title

MANSFIELD, Mass. – LIU Post, last season's national runner-up, was selected as the top team in the Northeast-10 by the league's coaches, as the conference released its 2015 Field Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll on Friday.

NE-10 regular season champions in 2014, the Pioneers took the top spot in the poll with 135 total points along with five first-place votes.

Adelphi came in at No. 2, collecting 127 points as well as a pair of first-place votes. Defending Northeast-10 Champion Stonehill was only two votes behind in third place with 125 points to go along with four votes for first place.

The Skyhawks took down the top-seeded Pioneers in last year's NE-10 Championship Game, 1-0, to claim the program's second conference title.

Merrimack was selected fourth with a total of 97 points, while only one point separated Bentley (89 points) and Assumption (88) at for the fifth and sixth spots. American International was No. 7 with 82 points while claiming one first-place vote.

Coming in at No. 8 was Saint Anselm with 77 points, followed by Saint Michael's, which garnered 69 points and one vote for first place. Southern Connecticut (44 pts.), Franklin Pierce (41), Southern New Hampshire (28) and Pace (12) rounded out the 13-team poll.

LIU Post defeated both Adelphi and Stonehill in the 2014 NCAA Tournament before falling to Millersville by just one goal in the National Championship Game.

Four Northeast-10 teams appeared in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) NCAA Division II Preseason Poll, which came out on Tuesday. Leading the way was LIU Post at No. 3 with 177 points and two first-place votes. Stonehill (5th), Adelphi (7th) and Merrimack (10th) also represented the conference in the national rankings.

The 2015 NE-10 field hockey season begins on Friday, Sept. 4. Postseason play begins with the Northeast-10 Championship Quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 3, while the semifinals are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6. The conference title game is slated for Sunday, Nov. 8.
