Sciamanna Tabbed as Saint Anselm Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 29, 2015

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm Director of Athletics Jim Herlihy announced Tuesday that Michael Sciamanna has been selected to lead the men's lacrosse program as its head coach. Sciamanna will begin his duties in mid-August.

"We are excited to have Mike join our coaching staff," Herlihy said. "He is one of the top young coaches in the region with a proven track record of success, both athletically and academically, at one of the top small-college programs in the country. He is a great fit for Saint Anselm and we look forward to working alongside him."

Sciamanna arrives on the Hilltop following eight years as an assistant coach with the Endicott College men's lacrosse program. Sciamanna helped guide the Gulls to a 121-44 (.733) overall record that included five 15-win seasons during his tenure.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to join the Saint Anselm College community as the head men's lacrosse coach," Sciamanna said. "I would like to thank Jim, [Associate Director of Athletics] Phil Rowe and the rest of the committee. I look forward to working with the team on building a positive culture where players strive to be their best both on and off the field."

While at Endicott, Sciamanna served as the offensive, ride and clear coordinator, in addition to being responsible for scouting opponents, planning practices, recruiting, community outreach and community service.

During Sciamanna's tenure, the Gulls were nationally ranked in each of the eight years, captured three Commonwealth Coast Conference titles (2010, 2011, 2015) and made four NCAA Tournament appearances (2010, 2011, 2014, 2015). Sciamanna's offense was ranked in the top-10 in the country in goals scored in 2011, 2014 and 2015, in addition to producing seven of the program's top-10 single-game goal outputs.

"I'm really happy and proud of Mike that he's taken this next step in his coaching and professional career to be a head coach," said Sean Quirk, who was Sciamanna's head coach with the Gulls for all eight seasons and is now an Associate Athletic Director at Endicott. "He was my assistant here at Endicott for eight years, came in right out of college and has really just blossomed into one of the greatest coaches out there. I'm really happy for Saint Anselm that they're getting a quality mentor and a quality man in Coach Sciamanna.

"[Endicott] had a tremendous amount of success while he was here. His offensive mind, overall game planning and mentoring was instrumental in getting our program to a top-5 level. There is no question in my mind that Saint Anselm will be a better place and a better program with him being there and that he will become a better person being at a place like Saint Anselm."

Sciamanna played his college lacrosse at the Division I level for three years. Sciamanna began his career at Wagner College, where he started all but one game in two seasons. He led the Seahawks in scoring in both 2004 and 2005 and set the program's single-season assist record in '05. Sciamanna then transferred to the University of Massachusetts for the 2006 campaign and was part of a run to the National Championship game and UMass' first team to make the Final Four in school history.

Sciamanna earned his Bachelor's degree in Communication from UMass in 2008 and then received his Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Endicott in 2010.
