Le Moyne and American International Come From Behind to Advance to NE-10 Quarterfinals

Six Players tally double-doubles during first round of NE-10 Championship

Both Le Moyne and American International had to come from behind to survive and advance in the opening round of the 2015 Northeast-10 Championship on Friday night. The Dolphins slipped past Merrimack on the road, 61-58, while the Yellow Jackets earned a 52-43 victory over Saint Michael's.

Moving on to the quarterfinals, Le Moyne will head to Adelphi, the top seed from the Southwest Division, on Sunday for a 3 p.m. tipoff. American International will take on the top seed from the Northeast, Stonehill, on Sunday at 3 p.m. as well.

No. 2 SW seed New Haven will host No. 3 NE seed Assumption, and No. 2 NE Franklin Pierce will welcome No. 3 SW Southern Connecticut for the other two 3 p.m. quarterfinal matchups Sunday.

No. 5 SW Le Moyne 61, No. 4 NE Merrimack 58 - BOX

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Southwest No. 5 seed Le Moyne overcame a 23-point deficit and ended the game on a 14-3 run to defeat the Warriors by three. NE-10 first teamer Alex Marple led all scorers with 18 points.

Merrimack got off to a hot start and took a 34-11 lead with 7:44 remaining in the first half. The Warriors shot 57.7 percent from the field in the first half compared to 35.7 for the Dolphins. However, Le Moyne held Merrimack to only three points, a triple at the buzzer, in the final five minutes of the game to snag the win.

Vandell Andrade and Bath-Sheba McMahon both racked up double-doubles for the Dolphins. Chloe Rothman led the Warriors with 14 points, while Tia Scott had 13 points, 8 rebounds and six assists.

No. 4 SW American Int'l 52, No. 5 NE Saint Michael's 43BOX

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Fourth-seeded American International trailed Saint Michael's for the majority of the first half but scrapped its way back in it and took the lead for good with 3:03 left in the game. Four players had double-doubles on the night.

The Purple Knights held a 24-22 halftime lead and the two squads remained close throughout the second frame. The Yellow Jackets clamped down and held the Purple Knights to just four points over the final 8:50 of the game.

Krista Ferrentino guided American Int'l with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Kamika Mason tallied 13 points, 13 boards and four blocks. Saint Michael's was led by Makenzie Burud, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Indira Evora, who had 11 points and 11 boards.
