16 Cross Country and Track & Field Student-Athletes Named Academic All-District

South Easton, Mass. – 16 student-athletes representing the Northeast-10 Conference were selected as CoSIDA / Capital One Academic All-District selections it was announced this week.

The 2012 Capital One Academic All‐District Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, and honor the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

There were ten men's selections and ten women's selections from District 1, which incorporates the Northeast-10 Conference, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and the East Coast Conference. Of those 20 selections, 80-percent were representing Northeast-10 member schools.

Six different schools had at least one representative, with Southern Connecticut State University and Stonehill College leading the way with four selections apiece.

Among those named Academic All-District were the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Angus MacDonald, pictured, who recently earned his tenth All-American honor at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pueblo, Colorado, and Bentley University's Amy Varsell, who was honored as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year.

First‐team Academic All‐District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America® Team ballot, where first‐second‐and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
