Boston, Mass. – Southern Connecticut State University won their tenth consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship, while the The University of Massachusetts Lowell Women's team claimed their first championship since 2010 Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.

Twelve Northeast-10 Conference records were set at the 2012 Championship Meet, including the improbable high jump mark, which was set by The University of New Haven'sMatthew Jeune. Jeune cleared 2.20 meters, an NCAA automatic qualifying leap setting a new NE-10 mark, and defeating the defending national champion in the event Stonehill College's Corey Thomas.

American International College sophomore Anthony DeJean was named the men's most valuable athlete, while UMass Lowell Ashley Zielinski claimed the women's individual award.

The Owls' men's team registered their tenth consecutive title behind a balanced attack that tallied 165.5 points, bettering second-place Stonehill, which finished with 150. American International College was third with 138 points.

So. Connecticut was led by their strong showing in the men's 4 x 800 meter relay team, which set a new NE-10 benchmark with a time of 7:43.32. The Owls' Josh Perry, pictured, also set a new conference mark in the 1000 meter with his time of 2:25.17.

On the women's side, the River Hawks registered 171 total points, while Stonehill finished second with 138. So. Connecticut was third with 106 points. UMass Lowell was led by the aforementioned Zielinski, who won the 55-meter hurdles and finished second in the 55-meter dash.

Also awarded at the 2012 Championships were the major award winners for the Indoor Track and Field Season. UMass Lowell's record-setting Evan White was named the Men's Athlete of the Year, while American Int'l's Jeremy Antivo, who had a strong showing at the NE-10 Championships, was named Rookie of the Year.

John Wallin, the head coach of the champion So. Connecticut men's team was awarded 2012 Men's Coach of the Year by his peers.

On the women's side, So. Connecticut teammates claimed Athlete and Rookie of the Year, as Brittany Brown (Athlete) and Michelle Grecni (Rookie) were feted for their performance during the 2011-12 indoor season.

UMass Lowell's Gary Gardner, whose team won the 2012 Championship, was named the Women's Coach of the Year.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
