NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Merrimack senior
quarterback Joe Clancy has been selected
as the 2012 recipient of the Harry Agganis Award, as announced by
the New England Football Writers. Clancy accepted the award on
December 6 at the annual New England Football Writers’
Captains and Awards Dinner at Montvale Plaza in Stoneham.
The Agganis Award is presented annually to the most outstanding
senior football player in New England. Clancy becomes the first
Warrior in program history to receive the prestigious award.
Clancy was named Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the
Year and first team All-NE-10 after posting the best season in
Merrimack program history from the quarterback position. He broke
nearly every passing record in school history as he finished the
season Clancy completed 323 of 510 passes for 3,945 yards and 31
touchdown passes along with three rushing touchdowns. For the
season, Clancy led the Northeast-10 Conference in all passing
categories and led the nation in passing yards per game (394.5) and
total yards per game (399.4).
Fellow Warriors Isaiah Voegeli and
Artis Holt will also be in attendance on
Thursday night at the annual captains and awards banquet as they
both received first team All-New England accolades.
Merrimack concluded the 2012 season with an overall record of 6-4,
and held a conference record of 4-4.
