2016 NE-10 Men’s Golf Championship on the Horizon

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL | LIVE RESULTS

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The 2016 NE-10 Men’s Golf Championship is just around the corner, as 10 league squads prepare to hit the course at Olde Kinderhook Golf Club in Valatie, N.Y., from Sunday, Oct. 2 through Monday, Oct. 3. Prior to the tournament, which will be hosted by The College of Saint Rose, reigning conference champion Southern New Hampshire was picked atop the NE-10 Men’s Golf Coaches’ Poll.

For complete results of the poll, which is voted upon by the league’s head coaches, please see below.

Southern New Hampshire garnered 76 points and six first-place votes to claim the top spot in the coaches’ poll. The Penmen won their third NE-10 title last season by edging Le Moyne in a one-hole playoff, giving SNHU its first league championship since winning back-to-back titles in 2001 and 2002. Gavin Dugas, who finished third at the 2015 championship, and Matt Paradis will headline an SNHU squad that returns three of the top eight finishers from last year’s tournament.

Bentley, which brings back 2015 individual runner-up Brett Chatfield, took second place in the poll by collecting 70 points and a pair of first-place nods. Le Moyne, the NE-10 runner-up in each of the last two seasons, was close behind in third with 67 points and one vote for first place.

The Dolphins finished tied for first with SNHU after 36 holes at last season’s NE-10 Championship before the Penmen prevailed in the playoff hole. Leading the way for Le Moyne will be defending NE-10 individual champion John Clare, who finished in a tie for eighth place at the NCAA Division II National Championships this past spring.

Franklin Pierce picked up the other first-place vote while collecting 54 points to take fourth, while Assumption (5th – 46 Pts.) and Saint Rose (6th – 45) were separated by just one point. Rounding out the remainder of the poll were American International (7th – 33), Adelphi (8th – 21), Saint Anselm (9th – 18) and Saint Michael’s (10th – 15).

The two-day tournament will begin on Sunday with the first tee time scheduled for 10:40 a.m. Follow @TheNortheast10 on Twitter for updates throughout the 2016 NE-10 Men’s Golf Championship.
