Jahelka Named Player of the Year as NE-10 Announces Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Teams, Awards

Adelphi Leads Way with Three Major Awards, Five First-Teamers

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Adelphi junior Jacqueline Jahelka was named the 2016 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, as the conference office announced its women’s lacrosse all-conference teams and major award winners on Tuesday.

Jahelka led the two-time defending national champion Panthers in both goals and points while starting in every game to help Adelphi finish the regular season with an unblemished 16-0 record. The Garden City, N.Y., native wrapped up the regular season ranked second in the NE-10 in goals (66) and points (85) while shooting at a 66 percent clip and chipping in 19 assists. Jahelka earns all-conference for the third time in as many seasons and collects the second major award of her career, claiming NE-10 Rookie of the Year in 2014.

New Haven’s Corinne Fisher was selected as the NE-10 Midfielder of the Year. Fisher led the Chargers with 39 goals during the regular season, helping New Haven to a 10-3 mark in conference play. She ranks second on the team in ground balls (37), third in points (54) and fourth in assists (15). A first team all-conference choice, Fisher is also in the top 10 in the conference with 55 draw controls and 24 caused turnovers.

Adelphi’s Ryley Weber was tabbed as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year after a strong season for the Panthers. Weber, a first team selection for the second straight year, concluded the regular season tied for first in the NE-10 with 32 caused turnovers while leading the team and ranking in the top 10 in the conference with 54 draw controls. She also picked up 27 ground balls and scored once, starting in all 16 games for the Panthers.

Bentley’s Lauren Ochs picked up NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Year accolades after an impressive junior season for the Falcons. Ochs played more minutes than any other goalie in the conference this regular season while going 12-5 between the pipes. She is second in the NE-10 with a 49.7 save percentage and fourth with a 9.00 goals-against average in addition to making 8.88 saves per contest.

Southern New Hampshire’s Kristin Wilder was honored as the NE-10 Rookie of the Year after a record-breaking freshman season for the Penmen. Wilder set the program’s single-season goals record after scoring 75 goals, the most in the country during the regular season. A first team all-conference pick at attack, she added 35 draw controls as well as eight assists, tallying 83 points on the season, good for third in the conference.

In just his second season at the helm, Adelphi’s Pat McCabe was recognized by his peers as the 2016 NE-10 Coach of the Year. McCabe led the Panthers, the No. 1 team in the IWLCA national poll all year, to a 16-0 overall record (13-0 NE-10) en route to the Northeast-10 Regular Season title. The two-time defending national champions finished the regular season as the only unbeaten team in the country and ranks first in the nation scoring margin.

Adelphi led the way with five first-teamers, while Le Moyne and Southern New Hampshire were next with two apiece. The Panthers also had the most student-athletes honored with eight, followed by New Haven with seven and Bentley, Pace and Le Moyne, which each had five honorees.
