FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 4, 2014

#1 Assumption 2, #8 Stonehill 1, Final - OT

WORCESTER, Mass. - You'd be hard pressed to find a student-athlete that had a better day then Assumption College's Amanda Arnold.  Having being named the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Year earlier, Arnold capped off her day by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to send the Greyhounds to the NE-10 Semifinal Round.

Stonehill would score first as Meagan Elliott got the visting Skyhawks on the scoreboard in the 15th minute, however, Assumption would score the final two goals of the game to survive and advance.  Paige Radomski, the NE-10 Player of the Year, scored the equalizer midway through the second half.  Arnold would score the golden goal in the first overtime session to send the top-seeded Greyhounds on to the next round.

#2 Saint Rose 2, #7 Pace 0

ALBANY, N.Y. – The defending conference champion Golden Knights used two first half to advance to the semifinal round of the championship in a 2-0 victory over Pace University in a Northeast-10 Conference Championship quarterfinal on Tuesday afternoon.

After a scoreless first 10 minutes of the contest, Saint Rose's Carmelina Puopolo, pictured, and Roxana Hernandez scored to give Saint Rose (16-1-2) the lead.  Puopolo, selected as a First Team All-Conference selection earlier in the day, finished the game with a goal and an assist.

#3 Adelphi 1, #6 Le Moyne 0

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – A header from junior Taylor Groth in the late stages of the second half was the lone tally in a 1-0 win for the Adelphi University women's soccer team in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinal round this afternoon against Le Moyne College on Motamed Field.

Both goalkeepers were forced to make three challenging saves in the first 45 minutes as Sam Whitney made a few punching saves for the Panthers and Tori Corsaro stood her ground for the Dolphins.

Adelphi continued to keep the pressure on throughout the second half and finally broke through with a tally in the 75th minute as a pair of juniors backs connected with Groth heading in a corner from Taylor Salmon.

#5 Franklin Pierce 2, #4 Southern Connecticut 1, Final - 2OT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior midfielder Kaycee Pereira put away the game-winning goal in the 104th minute on Tuesday afternoon to lift fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University to a 2-1, double-overtime win over fourth-seeded Southern Connecticut State in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship at Jess Dow Field.

Freshman forward Victoria Buonanni tallied the lone goal in defeat for So. Connecticut.

With the game tied, one overtime already in the books and a penalty-kick shootout less than seven minutes away, Pereira found the game-winner in the 104th minute to send the Ravens home with a victory. Pereira wound up with the ball and space to shoot in the middle of the field, about 25 yards from goal. She let the shot fly and put it into the upper reaches of the net.

Earlier in the day, the teams traded goals in the second half to send the game into overtime tied at 1-1. Senior forward Talita Pereira opened the scoring for Franklin Pierce in the 57th minute. The Ravens were awarded a free kick 25 yards out and Pereira put the shot on-target directly off the free kick. She found the top corner of the net with the strike for her seventh goal of the campaign.
