INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Northeast-10 Champion Assumption Greyhounds earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Football Championship Super Region I on Sunday and will host sixth-seeded Bowie State in the first round on Saturday at 1 p.m. It will be the first NCAA Football Championship appearance in program history for Assumption College.

Assumption (10-1) defeated New Haven, 17-14, in the NE-10 Championship Game on Saturday to win the program's first NE-10 title. The Greyhounds, who have now won nine straight games, claimed the NE-10 Regular Season Championship as well after posting an 8-1 mark in conference play this season.

The Greyhounds become the first NE-10 football team to host an NCAA Championship contest since New Haven hosted Indiana (Pa.) during the 2012 season in the second round. Assumption came in at No. 19 in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches' Poll, the highest ranking that the Hounds have ever received in the poll.

Bowie State enters the contest with a 9-2 overall record and 7-1 mark in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). The Bulldogs fell to Winston-Salem State, 17-14, in the CIAA Championship this past weekend.

The one common opponent between Assumption and Bowie State this season was Merrimack. The Greyhounds defeated the Warriors, 36-29, on Sept. 18, the first victory of Assumption's nine-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs edged out the Warriors in their season opener, 35-32.

Shepherd earned the top seed in Super Region I and will have a first-round bye, playing the winner of No. 4 Charleston (W. Va.) and No. 5 Indiana (Pa.), while No. 2 Slippery Rock and No. 7 Virginia Union will face off in the other first round game of the super region. The second round will take place on Nov. 28, and the quarterfinals will be the following Saturday (Dec. 5). The semifinals will be Saturday, Dec. 12, while the 2015 NCAA Championship Game will take place on Saturday, Dec. 19.
