NE-10 Hands Out Football All-Conference Accolades & Major Awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. – New Haven running back Andre Anderson has been named the 2015 Northeast-10 Football Most Valuable Player, it was announced on Friday as the league office released its all-conference teams and major award winners.

Anderson led the Chargers to the NE-10 Championship Game after leading the conference in a number of major rushing categories this season. He was the leading back for the league’s top rushing offense, while the junior New Haven, Conn., native played a role in the return game for the Chargers as well.

For a complete list of all-conference members and award winners, as voted upon by the league's head coaches, please see below.

A first team all-conference selection, Anderson led the NE-10 in rushing yards (1,150), rushing yards per game (104.5), yards per attempt (7.1) and rushing touchdowns (14). He also led the conference in all-purpose yards with 1,766, while adding a touchdown reception and returning a kickoff 90 yards for a score to garner 16 total touchdowns on the season. In a win over Saint Anselm earlier this month, Anderson rushed for 319 yards, the third most single game rushing yards by a player in NCAA Division II this season.

Merrimack wide receiver Jere Brown was selected as the NE-10 Offensive Player of the Year while earning first team all-conference honors for the second time in his career. Brown had another stellar season as the Warriors’ top receiver, leading the NE-10 in receptions (83), receptions per game (7.5), receiving yards (1,054) and receiving yards per game (95.8). He also caught 12 touchdown passes, good for third in conference, and he is tied for fourth in NE-10 history with 38 career receiving touchdowns. Additionally, Brown’s 3,369 career receiving yards put him sixth on the conference’s all-time list.

New Haven linebacker Tyler Condit was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year after his record-breaking season in 2015. Condit recently broke the Northeast-10’s single-season record for total tackles after compiling 160 this season. He is currently fourth in the nation in that category, leading the NE-10 by a large margin, while his 109 assisted takedowns is tops in the country. Condit added five sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery this season as well.

Assumption do-it-all wide receiver Deonte Harris was chosen as the NE-10 Rookie of the Year after putting up big numbers in the passing game and return game. Harris led the NE-10 with three return touchdowns this season, which includes two punt return scores and one kickoff return touchdown. Against Bentley on Oct. 30, Harris returned to punts, bringing both back for touchdowns, one for 89 yards and the other from 48 yards out. He also ranks third in the NE-10 with 60 receptions and fourth with eight touchdown catches, while the freshman racked up 1,344 all-purpose yards.

New Haven’s Zach Voytek garnered Offensive Lineman of the Year honors for the second straight season, while his teammate Drake Harris was chosen as the NE-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year. Voytek anchored the Chargers offensive line, which helped pave the way for the league’s top rushing attack which put up 212.1 yards per game. Behind Voytek, New Haven was also second in the NE-10 with 417.2 total yards of offense per game and third in the conference with 205.1 passing yards per game. Meanwhile, Harris played a vital role for a Chargers defense that gave up the fewest points in the NE-10 this season (17.6). Harris totaled 45 tackles on the season, including 8.5 for a loss, while posting 2.5 sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries. Against Pace on Oct. 31, Harris returned a fumble 69 yards for a touchdown.

Assumption’s Bob Chesney was picked as the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year by his peers after leading the Greyhounds to the NE-10 title. Chesney guided Assumption to its first Northeast-10 Championship, as well as the regular season crown, earning a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Football Championship. The Greyhounds topped New Haven, 17-14, in the NE-10 title game. Chesney’s Hounds were the top scoring team in the conference this season by a large margin, putting up 38.2 points per game.

New Haven and American International had the most first-team selections with six, followed by LIU Post with five and Assumption with four. In total, New Haven had the most student-athletes honored with 11, while Assumption was right behind with 10.
