Owls, Skyhawks Fly to NE10 Titles Saturday Night in Boston

BOSTON, Mass.- The Southern Connecticut men's team and the Stonehill women's team continued their runs of respective dominance as of late by winning the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday night at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Five new conference marks were set during the Championships, including a pair by Stonehill's outstanding senior Nicole Borofski, who would go on to be named the Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer for her performances.
RECAP: Men's Championship
For the 12th time in school history, Southern Connecticut State won the NE10 Indoor Track and Field Championship. The Owls used a balanced effort in track and field events to hold off American International this evening at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Tikuan Johnson set a new school record in the 200 meters and claimed the NE10 title in that event (21.49 seconds). Turner Kelly won the NE10 shot put title (15.77 meters) with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark and was also second in the weight throw.
In addition, Ruvens Exantus scored in three separate individual events (60 hurdles, 400 meters and long jump), as did teammate Luke Velez in the 60 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters. That pair also ran legs of the 4x400 relay that ultimately sealed the title for the Owls.
Steven Cugini and Dieter Gutbrod each ran legs of the second-place distance medley and 4x800 relays, and also earned points in the 1000 meters and mile, respectively. Sean Davidson also helped the Owls' point tally, as he ran legs of the 4x400 and distance medley relays, and placed fourth in the 500 meters.
One new NE10 mark was set as American International's Serge Gilbert set a new conference record in the prelims of the 60m hurdles. His time of 7.97 was .01 of a second better than the old mark.
RECAP: Women's Championship
For the fourth consecutive year, the Stonehill women's team claimed the hardware at the NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Skyhawks were led by senior Nicole Borofski, who was named the Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet.
Four new records were set on the women's side, including a pair by Stonehill's Borofski. She broke her own record in the mile and set a new mark in the 3,000 meter run. The senior posted a time of 4:51.00 in the mile, bettering her old mark by more than three seconds, while her time of 9:53.96 took more than eight seconds off the old record.
In the 400m dash, Merrimack's Carly Muscaro sprinted to a time of 53.11, bettering her time from last year (54.46) by more than a second. It's the second-fastest time posted in the event this year in all of Division II, behind only Muscaro's mark of 52.27 which she recorded in January.
Adelphi's Rebecca Celorio set a new NE10 mark in the 5,000 meter run with her time of 17:29.08, taking more than four seconds off the old mark.
