Two-Time Defending NE-10 Champion Saint Rose Tops Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll

Golden Knights Tabbed as Preseason Favorites

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two-time defending league champion Saint Rose claimed the top spot in the Northeast-10 Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The Golden Knights notched 195 total points along with 13 first-place votes from the league’s head coaches. Following the Golden Knights were the Greyhounds of Assumption, racking up 171 points and one first-place vote.

Saint Rose won its second consecutive NE-10 title in 2014 by taking down regular season champion Assumption, 3-0, in the finals.

Adelphi also received one vote for first place and collected 163 points to wind up third. Only one point separated the fourth and fifth place teams, Franklin Pierce (149 points) and Southern Connecticut (148).

Coming in at No. 6 was American International with 98 points, followed by Southern New Hampshire at No. 7 with 94 points. Rounding out the top-10 were Saint Anselm (8th – 90 pts.), Merrimack (9th – 88) and Pace (10th – 87).

Wrapping up the rest of the 2015 NE-10 Coaches’ Poll were New Haven (85), Le Moyne (84), Stonehill (77), Saint Michael’s (29) and Bentley (17).

Saint Rose was ranked No. 3 in the country in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division II Preseason Poll, which was released earlier this month. The Golden Knights went 21-1-3 (11-1-2 NE-10) a season ago and made an appearance in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

The 2015 NE-10 women’s soccer season will begin on Thursday, Sept. 3. The Northeast-10 Championship will start Tuesday, Nov. 3 with the quarterfinals, while the semifinals will take place Friday, Nov. 6. The NE-10 title game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8.
