GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - For the first time in program history, the Adelphi University women's soccer team has won the Northeast-10 Conference Championship with a 1-0 win against Saint Rose earlier today in the Championship Final.

With the Panthers on the early attack, two early shots were turned away by Madison Taylor that included a shot from Victoria Antonino 15 seconds into the contest. From there, Saint Rose ended the first 45 minutes with a 12-2 shot advantage, forcing Anne Marie Ulliac to make three saves. In the 45th minute, Melissa Rubin made a stop on the goal line on a header by Elisa Galbiati.

A switch of momentum early in the second half, Saint Rose came out with early opportunities by taking the first four shots of the period. A shot from Victoria Antonino in the 56th minute that hit the post quickly switched play back to the Panthers, resulting in the lone tally moments later.

In the 60th minute, Laura Gomez was able to create space inside the 18-yard box with a dribble to the right. With that same foot, Gomez struck and had her deflected shot go over the outreach of Taylor to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead.

From there, the Panthers did not allow another shot from the Golden Knights as Ulliac was unchallenged in the final 45 minutes to preserve the shutout.

Taylor Salmon was named the Championship's Most Valuable Player by anchoring the Panthers' defense. Joining her on the All-Tournament were teammates Gomez and Taylor Groth along with Michaela Phillips and Morgan Burchhardt of Saint Rose, Paige Radomski of Assumption, and Julia Heffernan of Merrimack.

With the victory, Adelphi claims the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. The field will be announced Monday evening at 6:30 pm on NCAA.com.
