Van Biezen Brothers Both Recognized.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference had four tennis players – a pair on both the men’s and women’s sides – earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2020 Division II Regional Awards on Tuesday. Three different programs in the league were represented among the award recipients.

Southern New Hampshire’s Willem van Biezen and Stonehill’s Alexandra Vo were each tabbed ITA East Region Senior Players of the Year for their outstanding performance on the court this season. Additionally, SNHU’s Bas van Biezen and Adelphi’s Nicole Stay were named ITA East Region Most Improved Seniors.

Despite the shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ITA is recognizing the hard work of its deserving student-athletes, both on and off the court. National winners of the ITA awards will be announced next Tuesday, May 26, at 11 a.m. ET.

The van Biezen brothers, natives of Sassenheim, Netherlands, wreaked havoc on the NE10 during their four seasons in the league – capturing a trio of NE10 championships before the cancellation of the spring season in their final year. They went 6-2 this season at No. 1 doubles for the Penmen.

Willem van Biezen won the ITA East Regional Championship last September in Flushing, N.Y., defeating Bas in straight sets. He was named an ITA All-American as a singles player in late April, the first in program history.

Bas van Biezen was 4-1 at No. 3 singles this season, including a run to the ITA East Regional Championship singles match back in September. He, along with his brother, was named NE10 First Team All-Conference in 2019 at both singles and doubles.

Fresh-off the program’s seventh NE10 title this past October, Stonehill was led by Alexandra Vo and her 11-1 singles record, which included a 5-1 record at No. 2 and a perfect 6-0 at No. 3. She led the Skyhawks to a 12-3 overall record, as well as a three-way tie for first place in the NE10 standings with a 9-1 mark.

Nicole Stay helped power Adelphi to the No. 1 seed in the NE10 Women’s Tennis Championship this past fall, as the Panthers won a tiebreaker for the top seed after a 9-1 record in league play. She boasted a 14-4 singles record, including 10-3 in dual matches, while racking up a 10-1 mark at No. 2 doubles with partner Amanda Franstedt.
