NE-10 Hall of Fame: Bentley's Jason Westrol

NE-10 Hall of Fame: Bentley's Jason Westrol

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 10, 2015

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Beginning to honor its five individual inductees of the 2015 Northeast-10 Hall of Fame class, the conference recognized former Bentley men's basketball great Jason Westrol on Monday. The newest members of the NE-10 Hall of Fame were honored at the conference’s annual banquet, which was held on June 1 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

"We're certainly pleased to see the NE-10 recognize Jason with this recognition for his achievements and impact on the conference," said Bentley coach Jay Lawson. "He was a special player who led his teams to unprecedented success with a rare combination of skill, strength, savvy and mental toughness. However, it was equally his presence that made him unique as Jason was a star player and fierce competitor who naturally carried himself in a quiet humble fashion. It was a style that made him easily respected and admired by both teammates and opponents."

The NABC Division II National Player of the Year in 2010, no better term than winner describes Westrol during his four years in a Bentley uniform as he helped the Falcons reach the NCAA Division II Elite Eight three times with appearances in the Final Four in both 2008 and 2010. The Falcons won 88 percent of the time from 2006-10, amassing an incredible 91-11 mark against Northeast-10 opponents (regular season and postseason), and captured five NE-10 championships (three regular season, two tournament).

In both 2007 and 2008, Westrol was an integral part of Bentley teams that reached the Elite Eight with unblemished records (32-0 in 2007, 33-0 in 2008). He was undefeated in his first 54 regular season games (breaking a Division II record for consecutive regular season wins that had stood since the 40's) and finished his career with a 118-16 record.

One of two 2,000 point scorers in program history, the Brielle, N.J. product owns the Bentley career standards for games played, consecutive games played, field goals made and field goal attempts. He's also second in school history in points, steals, minutes and games started.

As a senior, Westrol filled the stat sheet with 21.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.3 steals a game. The two-time NABC State Farm Division II All-American received Player of the Year honors from the Northeast-10, Daktronics (Division II East Region) and Division II Bulletin (National Player of the Year) in addition to the NABC, and was recognized as Bentley's 2010 Outstanding Male Senior Athlete.

Westrol, a six-foot-three guard, recently completed his fifth year of professional basketball, his fourth playing abroad in Europe. He has spent the last two with Leuven in Belgium, averaging over 17 points this past season.

Westrol is the fourth former Bentley men's basketball player selected for the NE-10 Hall of Fame, joining Bill Holden '90, Jim Ferrer '89 and Nate Fritsch '08.
