NE-10 Basketball Teams Appear in National Preseason Polls

MEN'S NABC POLL | WOMEN'S USA TODAY POLL

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern Connecticut's Michael Mallory and Merrimack's Gelvis Solano both have earned preseason All-America honors prior to the 2015-16 men's basketball season. Additionally, Adelphi was ranked No. 14 in the USA TODAY Sports Division II Top 25 women's basketball poll, while Southern Connecticut came in at No. 19 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Preseason Poll.

Mallory and Solano, who were both Northeast-10 All-Conference selections last season, were each honored with preseason All-America accolades from The Sporting News and Basketball Times.

Solano, the leading scorer in the NE-10 with 23.2 points per game a season ago, was a second team preseason All-American by The Sporting News, while Mallory was an honorable mention choice. Solano also claimed a second-team nod from HERO Sports and was a Division II Bulletin Super 16 selection.

Adelphi was 14th in the USA TODAY Sports Poll by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) after winning the NE-10 Championship last season, while Stonehill, Franklin Pierce and Bentley also received votes in the preseason poll. Stonehill was No. 1 in the D2SIDA East Region Preseason Media Poll, edging Adelphi by just one point. The Panthers and Skyhawks were picked as the preseason favorites in the NE-10 by the league's coaches last month.

Southern Connecticut appeared at No. 19 in the NABC men's basketball rankings after reaching the NCAA East Regional finals a season ago. Also receiving votes in the poll were Bentley, Stonehill and Southern New Hampshire. The Owls and Falcons topped last month's NE-10 Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll.
