New Haven Ticketed as Regular-Season Favorite in Northeast-10 Volleyball Preseason Poll

Defending regional champion Chargers seeking
sixth straight unblemished season in conference play
 

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The University of New Haven volleyball team has been chosen by the league's head coaches to win this year's Northast-10 Conference regular-season title, as the Chargers received 14 first-place votes and 196 points overall to take the top spot in the annual preseason poll.

New Haven, which has gone a perfect 74-0 in Northeast-10 play since joining the conference prior to the 2008-09 season, will be seeking its sixth straight year without a league loss.

Last year, the Chargers won the Northeast-10 Championship and then defeated Bridgeport to take the NCAA East Region title, advancing to the Elite Eight for the 12th time in program history. They finished with a 30-2 record.

Franklin Pierce University (19-15, 12-3 NE-10) finished second in the poll with 169 points, followed by Adelphi University (25-12, 13-2 NE-10) in third with 165 points. Both programs earned at-large bids to last year's NCAA East Region Championship, with Franklin Pierce falling to NYIT in the quarterfinals and Adelphi advancing to the semis before falling to Bridgeport.

The College of Saint Rose (17-10, 10-5 NE-10) came in at the fourth position with 142 points, while Stonehill College (13-15, 7-8 NE-10) finished fifth with 137 points. Southern Connecticut State University (24-11, 10-5 NE-10) was sixth with 127 points and Pace University (17-18, 10-5 NE-10) received one first-place vote and 126 points to take the seventh spot.

American International College (16-14, 8-7 NE-10) totaled 120 points, Bentley University (11-19, 6-9 NE-10) had 104 points and Le Moyne College (16-11, 7-8 NE-10) had 73 points to round out the top-10 in the voting.

Making up the remainder of the poll was Southern New Hampshire University (11-16, 3-12 NE-10) with 58 points, Merrimack College (10-20, 2-13 NE-10) with 49 points, Assumption College (10-20, 4-11 NE-10) with 46 points, Saint Anselm College (9-16, 5-10 NE-10) with 39 points and Saint Michael's College (10-16, 2-13 NE-10) with 24 points.
