Bridgeport to host East Regional
beginning Thursday, December 5

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Three Northeast-10 Conference teams received bids to the 2013 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship field, it was announced Monday night in an online selection show at NCAA.com.

The University of New Haven (26-4), which won the Northeast-10 Championship this past Saturday, received the No. 4 seed and will match up against conference foe and fifth-seeded Adelphi University (19-12) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA East Regional, which will be hosted by the University of Bridgeport beginning next Thursday, December 5.

Franklin Pierce University (14-8) earned the seventh seed and will take on second-seeded LIU Post (22-9) in the quarterfinals.

In the other regional matchups, host and top-seeded Bridgeport (21-2) will face eighth-seeded Georgian Court (20-12) and third-seeded NYIT (26-6) will take on sixth-seeded Dowling (19-13).

Semifinal matches will follow on Friday, Dec. 6, with the East Regional title match slated for Saturday.

Bridgeport and Georgian Court received automatic bids to the tournament as champions of the East Coast Conference (ECC) and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), respectively. Of the five at-large bids, three came from the ECC (LIU Post, New York Tech, Dowling) and two from the Northeast-10 (Adelphi, Franklin Pierce).

New Haven is the defending East Regional champion, having defeated Bridgeport in last season's regional title match, while Bridgeport, Dowling and New Haven have combined to win the last eight regional titles.

With the exception of Georgian Court, which returns to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2009, every team was also present at last year's East Regional. Georgian Court replaces Dominican (N.Y.) as the CACC representative.

The winner of the East Regional will advance to the national quarterfinals, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 12, hosted by Upper Iowa at U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
