Northeast-10 releases its 2013 Volleyball
All-Conference selections and major awards

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – University of New Haven senior middle hitter Amber Cannady has been named the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Year, it was announced Thursday morning.

Cannady (pictured, right), whose Chargers will host the semifinal and final of the 2013 Northeast-10 Championship this weekend, is first among conference leaders in hitting percentage (.371) and blocks per set (1.64), and she is second in kills per set (3.49). Her blocks-per-set mark is also good for second in the country.

The Northeast-10 also announced the rest of its major award winners on Thursday, as Cannady's teammate and junior Kaulana Ane was named the 2013 Northeast-10 Setter of the Year.

Franklin Pierce University senior Lauren Miller and The College of Saint Rose senior Katy Daniels shared Northeast-10 Libero/Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Merrimack College freshman setter Tara Stuhr was recognized with the conference's annual Rookie of the Year award.

Receiving the inaugural Sandy Hoffman Coach of the Year award was none other than Bentley University head coach Sandy Hoffman (pictured, below), who was selected unanimously for the honor by her peers. The Northeast-10 announced the naming of the annual award for Hoffman late last month, and this fall Hoffman helped lead the Falcons to an 11-3 conference mark, earning the No. 3 seed in the Northeast-10 Championship in the process.

As for Cannady receiving this year's Northeast-10 Player of the Year award, it marks the sixth time in as many seasons that a New Haven student-athlete has received the honor. Rhe-Ann Niles earned the distinction in 2008 before Sara Malmlov won it two straight years from 2009-10, and Keidy Candelaria also won it in consecutive seasons from 2011-12.

Cannady was also a Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection. To view the Northeast-10 All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams, please see below.

As for Ane, she has averaged 8.78 assists and 2.67 digs per set for the Chargers, who went unbeaten in conference play for the sixth consecutive season. She has also posted a mark of 0.71 blocks per set.

Miller and Daniels were named Co-Libero/Defensive Players of the Year, as Miller was tops in the conference this season with 5.33 digs per set, and Daniels was third with 5.25 digs per set. Both student-athletes helped lead their respective teams to the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Championship as well.

Stuhr impressed as a freshman across the league this year, as she ranks first in the Northeast-10 with 10.30 assists per set. She has also been a key cog in Merrimack's turnaround from a last-place conference finish a year ago, as the Warriors upset second-seeded Saint Rose earlier this week to advance to Friday's Northeast-10 Championship Semifinals.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
