Three NE-10 Teams Advance to NCAA Men's Basketball Regional Semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - American International, Southern Connecticut, and Southern New Hampshire all advanced to the Regional Semifinals with their wins during Day One of the 2015 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

#1 American International 58, #8 Philadelphia University 53 | BOXSCORE

Senior Bobby Harris scored a game-best 17 points including 10 in the second half to help lead the comeback and help top-seeded American International defeat No. 8 Philadelphia 58-53 in the First Round of the NCAA Division II East Regional from the Butova Gymnasium this evening.

American Int'l improves to 24-6 on the season and advances to the semifinal round tomorrow for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with No. 5 Southern Connecticut. The Rams see their season end at 24-8.

#2 Southern New Hampshire 71, #7 Stonehill 59 | BOXSCORE

Second-seeded Southern New Hampshire clamped down defensively and ended the game on a 17-1 run to post a 71-59 win over seventh-seeded Stonehill in the First Round of the NCAA Division II East Regional Saturday at Butova Gymnasium.  The Penmen, who defeated the Skyhawks for the third time this season, improve to 22-7, while Stonehill sees its season come to a close at 19-10.

The Penmen, who recorded their first win in the NCAA tournament since the 2004-05 season, advance to face sixth-seeded University of the Sciences in Sunday's regional semifinal at 5:00 pm.  The Devils posted their first-ever NCAA win with a 73-57 upset of No. 3 seed Saint Anselm in the first game on Saturday.

Senior Chris Santo scored a team-high 18 points, including 14 in the second half, but third-seeded Saint Anselm was toppled by the University of the Sciences, 73-57, in an NCAA East Region First Round game at American International College's Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.

The Hawks, appearing in their 19th NCAA Tournament, end the season at 19-10 overall, while the Devils, playing in their first NCAA Tourney game ever, improve to 25-5 and advance to Sunday's (5 p.m.) semifinal against second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University. The 57 points marked the Hawks' second lowest scoring output of the year and the fewest points in an NCAA Tournament game for Saint Anselm since a 66-50 loss to Adelphi University in 1999.

#5 Southern Connecticut 88, #4 Bridgeport 75 | BOXSCORE

Southern Connecticut will play in the NCAA East Region semifinals on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. after outlasting fourth-seeded Bridgeport 88-75 on Saturday night in the team's First Round matchup.

Sophomore Michael Mallory led the Owls with 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arch, while junior Desmond Williams picked up his eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Senior Tylon Smith, pictured, tallied 19 points and senior Luke Houston added 10.

The team put away the win with a late 8-0 run and shot 48 percent from the field in the game. The fifth-seeded Owls will carry a 23-7 record into tomorrow's matchup with top-seeded American International (24-6), after they defeated Philadelphia University 58-53 in come-from-behind fashion on Saturday afternoon.
