FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 8, 2015

MANSFIELD, Mass. - University of New Haven men's basketball senior forward Eric Anderson has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) NCAA Division II National Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 4. Earlier this week, the Newark, N.J. native was also named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week.

Anderson helped the Chargers split their pair of games last week by averaging 25.0 points, 22.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals for the week. New Haven notched a 78-76 overtime win against Saint Anselm on New Year's Eve before falling to Southern Connecticut State, 74-65, on Jan. 3.

The senior forward recorded the school's first ever triple-double in the New Year's Eve victory, registering 26 points, 28 rebounds, and 10 assists, giving him the first triple-double in the Northeast-10 Conference since 2012. It was also one of only three performances included 25-plus points and 25-plus rebounds in NCAA Division II since 2001-02, and the only triple-double with such numbers.

Three days later, he recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 24 points and 16 rebounds against Southern Connecticut State.

Anderson is the Chargers' first ever national player of the week for the USBWA, which began recognizing NCAA Division II National Players of the Week prior to this season. He also becomes the first player from the Northeast-10 Conference and the NCAA Division II East Region recognized with the weekly accolade.
