MANSFIELD, Mass. – American International Head Men's Basketball Coach Andy Burkholder has been selected BennettRank.com's NCAA Division II Coach of the Year.
In his first seson at the helm of the Yellow Jackets, Burkholder led the team to its first Northeast-10 title in 21 years. AIC's bid to host the NCAA Division East Regional was its first ever and a 58-53 win over Philadelphia University was the first NCAA tournament since 1994.
The Yellow Jackets' magical run ended in the NCAA East Region Semifinal. American Int'l ended 24-7, its 10th 20-win season and most since finishing 26-6 in 1993-94.
In addition, Northeast-10 Player of the Year Chris Santo of Saint Anselm was named a third team All-American. Santo was second in the conference averaging 21.4 points per game, while leading the NE-10 with a 62.2 field goal percentage.
