Assumption is the Reigning NCAA Division II East Region Champion.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Coming off a special season when the team won the East Region Championship on its home court, Assumption is looking to replicate that success in the 2023-24 season, as it has been named preseason favorite in the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll. The conference office released the poll on Wednesday afternoon.
In the second season since the NE10 moved away from its divisional format for women's basketball, Assumption sits atop the Coaches' Poll with 117 points and eight first-place votes. Two-time reigning NE10 champion Bentley is second with 108 points and three first-place votes, while Southern New Hampshire is third with 107 points and one first-place tally. Southern Connecticut (84 points) and Pace (69 points) round-out the top five.
The NE10 Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll is voted on by all 12 head coaches throughout the conference.
Assumption won the East Region Championship last season with a 62-57 win over Jefferson at the Laska Gymnasium, advancing to the first NCAA Division II Elite Eight in program history. The Greyhounds finished the season with a 27-6 record, including a share of the NE10 regular season title after a 16-4 season in conference play. Head coach Kerry Phayre returns for her 28th season at the helm for Assumption in 2023-24.
Bentley won its record 22nd NE10 title last season with a 61-49 victory over Southern New Hampshire - its second-straight league championship under head coach C White. Since taking over for legendary Hall of Fame coach Barbara Stevens in June of 2020, White has led the Falcons to a 41-19 record and a pair of NE10 Championship titles.
