New Haven's Camryn DeBose Named a Top 30 Finalist for NCAA Woman of the Year

DeBose is One of 10 Division II Student-Athletes Recognized.


MANSFIELD, Mass. - The latest member of the 1,000 point club for New Haven women's basketball, Camryn DeBose '22, '24 MA has been named a Top 30 finalist for the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Woman of the Year Award.

DeBose was selected from among a record-breaking 619 nominees which was narrowed to 164 nominees at the conference level. The Top 30 nominees are made up of 10 representatives from each of the NCAA's three divisions and represent 15 sports. The Top 30 will be invited as guests of the NCAA to its annual convention scheduled for January in Phoenix where the NCAA Woman of the Year will be named.

A First-Team All-Northeast-10 Conference selection, DeBose graduated in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in clinical mental health counseling with a minor in forensic mental health. In addition to her All-Conference honors, DeBose was named the NE10 Woman of the Year and the women's basketball Sport Excellence Award winner combining her success on the court with her success in the classroom and the community.

DeBose graduated with 1,308 points, 15th all-time in scoring while she was second all-time at New Haven with 165 3-point field goals made. Off the court, she served on the executive board of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three years and was chosen as a member of the President's Advisory Board in 2022 to advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion awareness.

In 2021, DeBose organized the first Black Lives Matter game on campus and continued the event the next year. She also volunteered with Make-A-Wish throughout her career, helping the New Haven SAAC lead the NE10 in donations and earn multiple Wish Reveals for achieving a level of $10,000 or more in donations for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

In addition, DeBose volunteered as a math tutor for local middle school students and mentored high school AAU girl's basketball players to help prepare them for athletics and academics at the collegiate level ad was a volunteer with the Alzheimer's Walk in New Haven as well as serving as an advocate for mental health in the Black community.
