Three Programs Named Team Academic Honor Roll Schools.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference had nine volleyball programs earn the United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season, as announced by the organization on Monday. In total, 161 Division II programs were recognized.
Despite no formal competition in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Adelphi, Assumption, Bentley, Franklin Pierce, New Haven, Saint Rose, Southern Connecticut, Southern New Hampshire and Stonehill each maintained year-long GPAs of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale to earn academic honors from the AVCA.
"Even though teams might not have played during their usual season or may not have competed at all during the past year, coaches still found ways to lead their players to academic excellence," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "This is a testament to the important role volleyball coaches play in their players' success both on and off the court."
Additionally, Adelphi, Franklin Pierce and New Haven were designated as Team Academic Honor Roll schools. The trio of programs finished in the top 20-percent of teams GPAs in all of Division II to earn the highest scholarly achievement in the sport.
The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award was established in the 1992-93 academic year.
