March 30, 2012

South Easton, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University and Southern Connecticut State University both appeared in the most recent edition of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top-30 rankings, which was released earlier this week.

So. New Hampshire (22-2) moved up five spots to No. 16 while So. Connecticut (17-7) slid 11 spots into a tie with Emporia State at No. 28.

So. New Hampshire also held steady at No. 7 nationwide in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II poll, while receiving one first-place vote as well. Le Moyne College (18-4-1) also appeared in the NCBWA rankings at No. 18, although So. Connecticut dropped out after coming in at No. 14 last week.

So. New Hampshire and Le Moyne also took the top two spots in the NCBWA East Region poll, while So. Connecticut was third. Overall, eight Northeast-10 schools made up the East Region Top-10.

Meanwhile, in the College Baseball Lineup rankings, So. Connecticut (8), Le Moyne (21) and So. New Hampshire (23) were all featured among the nation's Top-30.

So. New Hampshire has won seven straight and nine of 11 since opening the season with a 13-game win streak. The Penmen, after setting a program-record with 25 wins a year ago, already have a chance to eclipse that mark this season as early as next week.

So. Connecticut has lost four of seven since March 20, which accounted for the Owls dropping out of the NCBWA national poll.

Le Moyne currently owns a 13-game unbeaten streak, going 12-0-1 dating back to a March 9 doubleheader.

AROUND THE NORTHEAST-10: So. New Hampshire lefty Tim Flight was named the NCBWA Division II National Pitcher of the Week following his 18-strikeout complete game shutout over Saint Anselm College on March 22. Flight is currently tops in the conference in wins (5) and second in ERA (0.44) and strikeouts (49)…Matt Jacobs of the University of Massachusetts Lowell is 21-of-24 on stolen base opportunities for the River Hawks…The Northeast-10 standings page now displays overall, conference and division records. Divisional marks will decide the Northeast-10 Baseball Championship field and seeding.
