Lowell, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball team will take part in the 2011 Boston Heart Walk on September 10, in memory of their fallen teammate Adam Keenan. The River Hawks will join Michael and Audrey Keenan on Adam's Team.
"Adam was a member of our family and we're going to support his family any way we can," said head coach Ken Harring. "Walking to support a great cause in the American Heart Association will carry on Adam's name and we will continue to do that as long I'm involved in this baseball program."
Adam Keenan passed unexpectedly on June 6, 2011 from a rare heart disease; he was just 20 years old. A former standout at Lowell High School, Keenan transferred to UMass Lowell last year after playing his freshman season at Franklin Pierce.
The Boston Heart Walk benefits the American Heart Association's efforts to raise funds for groundbreaking research and to educate the public on heart health. The walk is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at DCR Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade.
