For Immediate Release

May 6, 2012

South Easton, Mass. – Pace University and Saint Anselm College are the top seeds in the upcoming Northeast-10 Baseball Championship, which is scheduled to get underway Tuesday, May 8. This is the first year the conference baseball schedule was played as divisions, and Tuesday's First Round will feature four single elimination games.

Tuesday's four winners will advance to the championship weekend, which is scheduled to be played Thursday, May 10 – Saturday, May 12. The four teams will compete in a double-elimnation championship format over the three days.

If rain forces any cancellations, Sunday, May 13 will be used as a play date for the final day of the baseball championships.

The 'Northeast' Division of the Northeast-10 won the coin toss and the highest remaining seed following Tuesday's First Round action will serve as the host for this year's baseball championships. Next year, the 'Southwest' Division will play host to the championship.

Pace (17-4 in Division) and Le Moyne College (15-6) earned the top two seeds in the Southwest Division. The Setters have won seven of their last nine, while the Dolphins will be competing in the NE-10 Championship for the first time since their program reclassified to Division II.

In the Northeast Division, Franklin Pierce University (14-6-1) and Saint Anselm (14-6-1) ended the regular season with identical divisional records, but by virtue of their 2-0-1 record against the Ravens, Saint Anselm was awarded the top seed.

If Saint Anselm were to win Tuesday, the Hawks would host the championship weekend.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 5,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
