Manchester, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University senior lefthanded pitcher Zach LeBarron signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Thursday evening.
LeBarron, who was not selected in last week's Major League Baseball Draft, worked out for Angels scouts on Thursday and was offered a contract. The 6-3 lefthander went 5-0 with a 2.35 ERA in 13 appearances (10 starts) this season while striking out 66 in 72.2 innings of work. He held opponents to a .237 batting average and in his final collegiate start tossed eight innings of one run baseball, striking out seven without issuing a walk in an NCAA East Regional win over Wilmington (Del.) University.
The So. New Hampshire baseball team enjoyed its best season in
2012, posting a school record for wins with a 43-15 record.
The Penmen qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time,
capturing the East Region title and advancing to the Division II
College World Series, where they won their first game, 3-2, over
Minnesota State.
