ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint
Rose baseball team recently hosted 30 students from Arbor Hill
Elementary School for a pregame clinic and autograph session as
part of the baseball program's year-long partnership with the
school. Team members directed the youths through various drills,
posed for pictures and signed autographs during the
session.
The students were afforded the chance to attend the clinic
based on making the honor roll, having a good attendance record and
demonstrating good character during the past year.
The Golden Knights have practically adopted Arbor Hill
Elementary by regularly attending the school throughout the year.
Members of the team have assisted with the Cafeteria/Lunch Program
and have also helped with The Morning Program Mondays through
Fridays. They also helped with the Pumpkin Run and the Harvest
Feast at Thanksgiving, along with several other special
events.
“Saint Rose is such a great community based
institution. It is certainly at the forefront of community
relations in the Albany area and we're just trying to be a small
part of that,” said head coach Chris
Francis.
“We have really enjoyed our time there and have gotten a
great deal out of the experience. Hopefully, the ideas of giving
and selflessness resonate with our student-athletes as
adults.”
This represents just one of numerous community service
projects that Saint Rose student-athletes complete every year. It
furthermore puts forth another example of how Saint Rose
student-athletes embody a major prong of the College's mission
statement to engage with the school's urban environment and thus
help foster a sense of motivated and caring citizenship.
