Manchester, N.H. – The American Baseball
Coaches Association (ABCA) announced Tuesday that Southern New
Hampshire University baseball coach Scott
Loiseau has been named the organization's East Region
Coach of the Year. Loiseau joins the seven other Division II
regional Coach of the Year recipients, as well as National Coach of
the Year Jad Prachniak of West Chester University.
Loiseau guided the Penmen baseball program to an unprecedented
43-15 record in 2012, shattering the previous single-season program
record of 25 victories. So. New Hampshire qualified for the
NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and captured
the East Region title at home with a thrilling 4-3 win over Le
Moyne College in the East Region final to earn a Division II
College World Series berth. So. New Hampshire won its first
game at the CWS, downing Minnesota State 3-2.
As a team, So. New Hampshire ranked first nationally in both earned
run average (2.41) and strikeouts per nine innings (9.3) while also
placing among the national leaders in several other pitching and
defensive categories. Junior Tim
Flight led Division II in strikeouts and ranked sixth
in ERA en route to NCBWA and ABCA Division II Pitcher of the Year
and consensus First Team All-America honors. Four players
garnered All-Region honors while the Penmen had seven Northeast-10
All-Conference selections.
Over Loiseau’s first four seasons, the So. New Hampshire
baseball program has been transformed into one of the top programs
regionally and nationally. After winning seven games the
season prior to Loiseau’s arrival, the Penmen posted win
totals of 14 in 2009, 18 in 2010 and 25 in 2011 before 2012’s
breakout season.
