CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - The Northeast-10 Conference has announced the field for its 2013 Baseball Championship, which gets underway with first-round play on Tuesday.
Tuesday's first round will advance four winners into a three-day, double-elimination championship weekend on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (May 9-11). It will be hosted by the highest remaining seed from the Northeast-10 Southwest Division following Tuesday's action.
The University of New Haven and Pace University shared the 2013 Northeast-10 Southwest Division regular-season title with identical 15-6 records, while New Haven secures the top seed in the championship after taking two of three in the season series with Pace.
New Haven will host fourth-seeded Adelphi University (11-10 SW) Tuesday afternoon, while third-seeded Le Moyne College (14-7 SW) travels to second-seeded Pace. Both games get underway at 2:00 p.m., with the winners advancing to Championship Weekend.
In the Northeast Division, Franklin Pierce University (15-6 NE) won the regular-season title to earn the top seed and will host fourth-seeded Merrimack College (12-9 NE) Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University (13-8 NE) will travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on second-seeded Bentley University (13-8 NE) Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. The Falcons earned the higher seed by taking two of three from the Penmen late last month.
The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
