MANSFIELD, Mass. –Coming off its first league title since 2012, New Haven football has been voted to repeat as the title favorite, according to the Northeast-10 Conference Football Coaches' Poll released on Monday morning.
The Chargers collected all seven first-place votes from opposing head coaches, tallying 49 points to take the top spot in the poll for the third-straight season. New Haven went a perfect 8-0 in conference play during the 2021 season, on its way to winning the NE10 regular season championship for the fourth time in program history.
New Haven defeated nationally-ranked Bentley, 31-14, on its home turf last November to clinch the NE10 title. The Chargers went on to beat Bentley in the rematch, 38-13, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, before losing to Kutztown, 10-7, in the second round. It was the third 10-win season for New Haven (10-2) since joining the NE10.
Assumption finished second in the poll with 37 points and one first-place tally, while Bentley placed third with 33 points and Pace was fourth with 26 points. New Haven, Assumption and Bentley have combined for four of the last six NE10 titles.
