Men's Soccer Northeast-10 Championship - Semifinals

#1 Franklin Pierce 2, #4 Le Moyne 0

The No. 2 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce men’s soccer team advanced to the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Championship via its 2-0 win over Le Moyne on Friday afternoon at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The top-seeded and NE-10 regular season champion Ravens improved to 18-0-1, while the fourth-seeded Dolphins concluded their season with an 11-8-1 mark.

Franklin Pierce will be appearing in the NE-10 title match for the second-consecutive season and will be looking to defend its championship following last season’s 1-0 triumph over Bentley in the finals.

Franklin Pierce has shutout the opposition in each of its first two post-season matches in the NE-10 championship and has outscored the opponents by a combined score of 6-0. Friday’s triumph was the 10th shutout of the season for the Ravens.

#2 So. New Hampshire 3, #3 UMass Lowell 2

Chris Tsonis scored twice to lead second-seeded So. New Hampshire to a 3-2 win over No. 3 seed UMass Lowell in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship Friday night at Larkin Field.  The Penmen, who won their 14th straight match, improve to 17-2 and will face top-seeded Franklin Pierce Sunday afternoon at 1:00 at FPU's Sodexo Field in the championship match.

So. New Hampshire jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead behind Tsonis' two goals.  His first goal came at the  32:11 mark when the Penmen were awarded a penalty kick after Tsonis was brought down inside the six-yard box.  He converted the kick, his third of the season, for his 15th goal of the season.  SNHU struck again when River Hawk keeper Connor Askins came out and Jordan Branco flicked the ball over to Tsonis who buried it in the open net.

Danielle Dion buried the game-winning goal in the final minute of the first overtime period to send the #14 Merrimack women's soccer team to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship title match with a 2-1 win over So. New Hampshire Friday evening at Martone-Mejail Field. The second-seeded Warriors improved to 16-2-1 on the season with the victory while the Penmen drop to 10-8-2 overall.
