Academic All-America Soccer Teams Include 11 Northeast-10 Student-Athletes

South Easton, Mass. – The 2011 Capital One Academic All-America NCAA Division II Soccer Teams, which were announced late last week, featured 11 student-athletes representing Northeast-10 Conference institutions. Seven were named to the men's team while four were selected among the women's honorees.

Senior defender Tom Reilly from Franklin Pierce University was named to the Men's Soccer First Team. Reilly, a Wallasey, England native, has a 3.50 GPA and was also selected as this season's Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year. He helped lead the Ravens advance to the national semifinals in Pensacola, Florida.

Four more were named to the Men's Soccer Second team, including Reilly's teammate and goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou. The Franklin Pierce senior was named this year's Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year and posted a 3.40 GPA.

Also garnering Second Team honors were junior defender Weston Zeiner (3.80 GPA) of Bentley University, junior midfielder Jordan Branco (3.79) of Southern New Hampshire University, and senior forward Robbie Sabadoz (3.84) of Merrimack College.

Senior defender Paul Templeton (3.63) from Southern Connecticut State University and senior forward Victor Goncalves (3.61) from Franklin Pierce were both named to the Third Team.

Senior defender Hannah Merullo from the University of Massachusetts Lowell was named to the Women's Soccer First Team. Merullo, who hails from Wakefield, Mass., has a GPA of 3.92.

So. Connecticut grad student and goalkeeper Jacquelyn Fede (3.86) was named to the Second Team after being selected as the Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year. Defender Elizabeth Belanger of Stonehill College was also a Second Team selection, while her 3.95 GPA was the highest among the 11 Northeast-10 student-athletes named to the two Academic All-America squads.

Senior midfielder Christina Cuffari (3.75) from The College of Saint Rose rounded out the selections as a Third Team honoree. Cuffari helped lead the Golden Knights to the first national championship in program history and was also named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year.
