Four Records Broken on First Day

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After the first day of the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Southern Connecticut leads on the men’s side and Stonehill sits in first on the women’s side.

The second and final day of action will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday. A live video stream of Day Two of the NE-10 Championships will be available here.

The Owls are in first place in the men’s standings with 63 points. American International is in second place with 52, Stonehill sits in third with 43 and Franklin Pierce is fourth with 35.5 points.

The Skyhawks lead the women’s standings with a total of 72 points. Southern Connecticut is right behind Stonehill in second with 69.5, while American International is third with 31.5 points.

Four records fell on the day one of competition, including two men’s records. Southern Connecticut’s Tresley Dupont broke the NE-10 record in the hammer throw with a winning toss of 61.87 meters. American International’s Michael Biwott also set a record by running a 30:02.18 in the 10,000-meter run. 

A pair of records also fell on the women’s side. Michelle Grecni of Southern Connecticut set the record with a 4.10-meter mark in the pole vault. Stonehill’s Maria Curit set a new mark in the long jump with a winning leap of 5.99 meters.

Southern Connecticut had victories from Joseph Caraciolo in the men’s long jump and Cy McIntosh in the men’s javelin. The Owls’ women’s team also received titles from Elizabeth Bashir in the women’s hammer throw and Sarah Vaughan in the 10,000-meter run.

Stonehill earned wins from Anthony Innamorati in the men’s pole vault, Nicole Borofski in the women’s 1500-meter run, as well as its women’s 4x800-meter relay team.

Assumption’s lone win came from Megan Perrin in the women’s javelin. The Yellow Jackets’s second victory came from Jeremy Antivo in the 1500-meter run. Franklin Pierce came away victorious in the men’s 4x800-meter relay.
