Saint Rose Names McCadney Track and Field Coach

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 1, 2014

ALBANY, N.Y. - Mike McCadney has been named the Head Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach at The College of Saint Rose. McCadney brings coaching experience from the collegiate and high school levels, in addition to private clubs.

McCadney is a former Assistant Coach and Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Operations at his alma mater, the University at Albany. He most recently worked as an assistant coach at St. John Fisher College and Charlotte High School in Rochester, and at the Leadership Academy for Young Men within the Rochester City School District.

“We are excited to have Mike McCadney join our staff. Mike’s personal achievements, extensive coaching resume, and his desire to bring out the best in each of his student-athletes should collectively allow him to build on the past successes of our track and field program”, said Cathy Haker, Director of Athletics and Recreation.

As an Assistant Coach at UAlbany from 2009-12, McCadney helped mentor 16 IC4A and ECAC qualifiers, 11 America East All-Conference honorees, four America East Champions, two USA Junior National qualifiers, and one IC4A individual titlist.

Additionally, the Great Danes won three straight men’s and women’s America East track and field team championships, a pair of women’s ECAC cross country championships and the men’s 2011 America East cross country title.

He subsequently was appointed the Director of Operations for the cross country and track and field programs where he was responsible for managing the operational budget, arranging all on-campus recruiting visits, team travel, and equipment inventory.

McCadney most recently worked as an Assistant Coach at Charlotte High School and the Flower City Track Club. He was responsible for strength and conditioning, relays, horizontal and vertical jumps, and sprint training at Charlotte.

At Flower City, which served fourth graders to former collegiate athletes, he directed the training, planning and implementation of workouts, and collaborated with various coaches to organize and promote philanthropic support for apparel and shoes.

One of the program’s most decorated horizontal jumpers throughout his three-year career with the Great Danes (2006-09), McCadney owns the school’s indoor and outdoor triple jump records, going 15.76 meters (51’, 8.5”) at the 2009 IC4A indoor championships, 15.65m (51’, 4.25”) at the 2009 USA Senior National Championship and 15.92m (52’, 2.75”) at the USATF Liberty Tour Classic.

McCadney was also the 2008 IC4A outdoor triple jump champion, a two-time America East champion both indoors and outdoors in that event, and was part of the still standing school record 4x200m relay team. Additionally, his long jump and triple jump performances help lead the Great Danes to their first sweep of the 2009 indoor and outdoor IC4A team championships in school history.

A two-time team captain, McCadney earned a bachelor’s degree as a dual major in English and psychology at UAlbany.

Prior to his arrival in New York’s Capital District, McCadney finished 12th overall in the decathlon at the 2006 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships while competing for Fort Valley State University in Georgia.

McCadney is still an active competitor. He placed eighth in the triple jump behind a leap of 16.00m (52’, 6”) at the 2010 USA Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, NM.

An elite athlete and member of the Puerto Rican National Team for which he qualified with a lifetime best triple jump of 16.34m (53’, 7.5”), he went on to represent that country at the 2011 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, PR.

He aspires to represent Puerto Rico as a triple jumper at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
