New Haven, Assumption Advance to NE10 Women's Tennis Championship Semifinals

NE10 Semifinals Scheduled for Friday.


MANSFIELD, Mass. - Both high seeds advanced in Wednesday's first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship, as No. 3-seeded New Haven and No. 4-seeded Assumption earned shutout victories to move on to Friday's semifinals.

New Haven blanked No. 6-seeded Franklin Pierce, 4-0, and will travel to play reigning NE10 champion Southern New Hampshire on Friday at 2 p.m. Assumption defeated No. 5-seeded Saint Anselm, 4-0, and will visit top-seeded Adelphi on Friday with first serve at 1 p.m.

The semifinal winners will play for the NE10 Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the highest remaining seed.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Lucia Placidi and Alexa Orlando earned singles and doubles wins on Wednesday, leading No. 3 New Haven to a 4-0 win over No. 6 Franklin Pierce in the first round of the NE10 Women's Tennis Championship. The Chargers advance to Friday's semifinals to play reigning league champion Southern New Hampshire at 2 p.m. 

Placidi won at No. 5 singles and Orlando was victorious at No. 6 singles, both in straight sets, while Karim Carreras won her match at No. 2 singles by opponent retirement to clinch the win for New Haven and punch its ticket to its first NE10 Championship semifinals in program history. 


(4) Assumption 4, (5) Saint Anselm 0 – Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. - After winning the doubles point on Wednesday, No. 4 Assumption never looked back - sweeping the first three singles matches against No. 5 Saint Anselm to win 4-0 in the first round of the NE10 Women's Tennis Championship. The Greyhounds advance to play top-seeded Adelphi on Friday in the semifinals at 1 p.m. 

Jill Viktoria SchoeneichCaitlin Sze and Carola Schaudinn each won their singles matches to lead Assumption to victory, winning at the No. 4, 5 and 6 flights, respectively. Assumption has now won 13 matches this season, tying the program record set in 1987 for a single season.

* Adelphi, SNHU & New Haven were all 1-1 within their mini-conference. When match score wins/losses were compared within the mini-conference, Adelphi had eight wins, SNHU had six wins and New Haven had seven wins. Adelphi earned the #1 seed. SNHU earned the #2 seed based on their regular season win vs. New Haven.

** Saint Anselm, Franklin Pierce & Bentley were all 1-1 within their mini-conference. When match score wins/losses were compared within the mini-conference, all teams finished with seven wins and seven losses. When compared to playoff teams occupying the highest positions in the standings, continuing down, all three lost to Adelphi, SNHU, New Haven & Assumption. When match score wins were compared vs. playoff teams, both Saint Anselm & Franklin Pierce lost 6-1 vs. Adelphi. Bentley lost 7-0. With Bentley pulled out of the mini-conference, Saint Anselm earned the #5 seed based on their regular season win vs. Franklin Pierce. Franklin Pierce earned the #6 seed based on their regular season win vs. Bentley.
