SNHU’s Kupfer Earns NE10 Player of the Year, Highlighting Women’s Tennis All-Conference Awards

Women's Tennis 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SNHU with NE10-Best Seven Players Honored.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire's Alina Kupfer has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Vern Cox Player of the Year, highlighting the All-Conference honorees announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.

In each of the past four seasons, SNHU has produced the Vern Cox Player of the Year - as Kupfer joins Magdalena Hubickova (2021 spring and 2022) and Natalie Kallmunzerova (2021 fall) with the distinction.

Joining Kupfer with major awards was Assumption's Caroline Mader as Rookie of the Year and Adelphi's Rebecca Fakas as Coach of the Year. For Fakas, it is the second time she has earned Coach of the Year in the past three seasons, as she led the Panthers to the top seed in the NE10 Women's Tennis Championship.

SNHU led all NE10 programs with seven student-athletes earning All-Conference honors, while Adelphi had a league-high nine All-Conference selections between singles and doubles. The Penmen also had four players selected to the First Team, the most among NE10 programs.

Kupfer, a native of Baldham, Germany, wins her first Vern Cox Player of the Year award after posting a 7-1 record at No. 1 singles. Her only singles loss came to Adelphi's Sanne Selmer Gilje, a Third Team selection at No. 1 singles. Kupfer helped the Penmen to a 7-1 conference record and a share of the NE10 regular season title, on her way to earning First Team (No. 1 singles) and Second Team (No. 1 doubles) recognition.

Mader, a native of Großwallstadt, Germany, had a breakout rookie campaign for Assumption - which earned the No. 4 seed in the NE10 Championship. She went 6-2 in singles play, including a 5-2 mark at the No. 2 flight, as well as a 5-3 doubles record with multiple partners. Mader was also a Second Team selection at No. 2 singles.

Fakas, now in her fifth season leading Adelphi, led the Panthers to a 7-1 conference record and a share of the NE10 regular season title. Adelphi enters the NE10 Championship as the No. 1 seed for the first time since 2019-20 and will compete for its first league title since the 2017-18 campaign. Fakas has led the Panthers to a 39-19 (.672) record since the 2021 spring season.

Overall, there were 14 NE10 student-athletes who earned All-Conference recognition at both singles and doubles, including a league-best six players from Adelphi.

The NE10 Women's Tennis Championship continues on Friday with the semifinals, as No. 1 Adelphi hosts No. 4 Assumption and No. 2 SNHU welcomes No. 3 New Haven. For the full schedule and all other championship information, click HERE.
