WORCESTER, Mass. - Maureen Atkins has been named as the Assumption College women’s volleyball head coach, as announced by Nick Smith, director of athletics.

“I am excited to welcome Maureen to Assumption College,” said Smith. “She is an energetic coach with experience in the Northeast-10 who I think will help bring our program to the next level. I think we have a solid foundation in place and I’m looking forward to having Maureen further develop the student-athletes in our volleyball program.”

Atkins comes to Assumption from Division I Bryant University, where she served as a graduate assistant coach for the 2012 season. In addition to her on-court coaching responsibilities, Atkins worked as the assistant coordinator of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and work as a study hall monitor for Bryant varsity athletes at the Academic Center for Excellence.

Prior to her time at Bryant, Atkins served as an assistant coach at Stonehill College from August 2010 to June 2012. At Stonehill, she was responsible for assisting in the development of practice plans, game schedules and recruiting. In addition, Atkins worked as a mentor to the players as they adjusted to college life and coordinated all of the team travel for road competition.

Atkins graduated from Bryant University in May 2009, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She was a member of the President’s Senior Advisory Council, the Beta Gamma Sigma Society and was named to the Dean’s List every semester. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Business Administration at Bryant with an expected graduation date of June 2014.
