Chargers advanced to
third round of
NCAA Tournament last season as top seed
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The University of
New Haven received 12 first-place votes and 220 points to garner
the top spot in the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Coaches
Preseason Poll, it was announced Friday morning by the conference
office.
The Chargers (23-7, 15-0 NE-10), who won the regular-season
title last season before being upset in the first round of the
Northeast-10 Championship, earned a pair of victories in last
year’s NCAA Tournament.
Stonehill College (27-7, 14-1 NE-10) finished second in the poll
with 204 points, just ahead of Adelphi University (23-8, 12-3
NE-10), which had 203 points. Both programs advanced to the NCAA
Tournament a year ago, while Adelphi also claimed its first-ever
Northeast-10 Championship.
Pace University (20-11, 10-5 NE-10) was positioned fourth with 178
points after earning a bid to the 2011 NCAA Tournament, one of four
Northeast-10 schools to claim a spot.
University of Massachusetts Lowell (13-11, 8-7 NE-10) and The
College of Saint Rose (18-9, 11-4 NE-10) finished tied for fifth
place with 143 points apiece.
Rounding out the top 10 in succession was Bentley University
(12-15, 7-8 NE-10) with 139 points, American International College
(15-17, 10-5 NE-10) with 131 points, Franklin Pierce University
(13-13, 7-8 NE-10) with 117 points, and Southern Connecticut State
University (19-11, 8-7 NE-10) with 116 points.
The remainder of the poll included Le Moyne College (16-12, 6-9
NE-10) with 101 points, Southern New Hampshire University (5-17,
3-12 NE-10) with 63 points, Merrimack College (5-22, 2-13 NE-10)
with 51 points, Saint Michael’s College (14-19, 3-12 NE-10)
with 49 points, Saint Anselm College (8-18, 3-12 NE-10) with 40
points, and Assumption College (7-22, 1-14 NE-10) with 22
points.
