Adelphi and New Haven
move on to regional
semifinals, Franklin Pierce knocked off by NYIT
WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Top-seeded University of New Haven and third-seeded Adelphi University both earned 3-0 victories over Dominican (N.Y.) and LIU Post, respectively, on Thursday at the NCAA Division II Volleyball East Regional on the campus of New Haven.
Fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University saw its season come to an end after the Ravens fell in four sets, 3-1, to fourth-seeded NYIT.

The Panthers took the first-round contest,
25-23, 25-21, 25-20, improving to 25-11 and advancing to the
regional semifinals for the third straight season.
The Panthers move on to face second-seeded Bridgeport on Friday at
5:00 p.m. on the campus of New Haven. Bridgeport earned its spot
after defeating seventh-seeded Dowling on Thursday afternoon.
Kaitlyn DeStefano powered the
Adelphi offense along with Chelsea
Overholt as they both posted double figure
kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Samantha
Rico chipped in nine and Haley
Blunt added seven, while Katie
Bryson led all players with 30 assists. Bryson
also paced the Panther defense, totaling 10 digs, while Hernandez
added eight and Overholt had seven.

The Chargers won their three sets, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-16, on
Thursday to advance to Friday's regional semifinals, where they
will meet NYIT at 7:30 p.m. The victory was the 25th straight win
for Northeast-10 Champion New Haven (28-1), which currently owns
the best record in Division II.
Keidy Candelaria and Amber
Cannady shared the team high with nine kills apiece.
Candelaria hit .348 and added 10 digs and five assists, while
Cannady had an assist, six digs and a block. Kristy
Atufunwa added eight kills and had a hand in six of
New Haven's six blocks. Kristen Lee
contributed six finishers and Ashley
Dalton notched three.
Kaulana Ane distributed 26 assists with
six kills of her own and completed a double-double with 10 digs.
Collectively, New Haven hit .284 (41-12-102). Defensively,
Kea-Marie Olaso had a team-best 13 digs
from the libero spot. She was joined in double figures by 10 digs
each from Ane, Candelaria and Lee. At the net, Atufunwa's six
blocks led all players.

After Franklin Pierce evened the match at one
set apiece, NYIT went on to take the third and fourth sets by
finals of 25-15 and 25-16, respectively, to advance to the
regionals against New Haven on Friday night.
For the Ravens, who see their season come to a close at 19-15, Katie Jackson led the way with 10 kills, while Ashley Bruce added nine. Sydni Schultz and Stephanie Svorinic both totaled 10 digs apiece, and Svorinic also had 31 assists in the loss.
This year had marked the first-ever NCAA appearance for Franklin Pierce.
