Adelphi, Franklin Pierce join host New Haven in NCAA East Regional
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The University of New Haven will host the 2012 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship East Regional, it was announced in a selection show on NCAA.com Sunday night.
The Chargers earned the region’s top seed, and was one of three Northeast-10 Conference teams to garner selection along with Adelphi University and Franklin Pierce University.
New Haven (27-1), which won the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Championship with a 3-1 victory over Adelphi on Saturday night, will take on Dominican (N.Y.) on Thursday, November 29 at Charger Gymnasium.
Adelphi (24-11) earned the third seed and will take on sixth-seeded LIU Post in a first-round NCAA contest on Nov. 29. Fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce (19-14) draws No. 4 seed NYIT the same day.
Adelphi returns to the NCAA Tournament after winning last year’s Northeast-10 Championship, while Franklin Pierce will be making its first-ever trip.
New Haven earned the top seed with a 27-1 record – the
best in the nation in terms of winning percentage – and a
24-0 record against East Region competition. It marks the Chargers'
seventh straight trip to NCAAs.
