GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Adelphi University graduate Erika Loomer was awarded a NCAA Women's Enhancement Program Postgraduate scholarship as announced on February 6, 2013. The NCAA awarded 13 women's enhancement program postgraduate scholarships. Of the 213 women selected, Loomer was the only Division II athlete selected, and one of just two non Division-I recipients.
The NCAA awarded 26 scholarships apiece to 13 ethnic minority
and 13 female recipients as part of its annual Ethnic Minority and
Women's Enhancement Scholarship program. Developed to increase
opportunities for qualified minority and female candidates, the
scholarships are one-time, non-renewable awards given to college
graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate
studies.
Loomer has spent the past year working in the Sports and Marketing
Department at Embry-Riddlle Aeronautical University in Daytona
Beach, Florida. In her role as a Sports Marketing Intern, Loomer
has developed marketing plans for various sports, assisted in
corporate sponsorships and produced promotional posters and
videos.
She was also a four-year member of the Adelphi University
volleyball team, helping the Panthers to four straight NCAA
Division II East Regional appearances, four consecitive 20-win
seasons and the programs first-ever berth in the East Regional
semifinals in 2010.
In addition, Loomer spent four years working in the Office of
Sports Information Office and was named a NACWAA Administrator of
Tomorrow in the spring of 2012. During her undergraduate career she
was also a public relations intern with the New York Knicks and the
Northeast-10 Conference as an intern during the summer of 2011.
An active volunteer within many community organizations and
projects, Loomer was selected to attend the inaugural NCAA Sports
and Entertainment Summit and NCAA Careers in Sports Forum in 2011
and was also the President of Adelphi's Student Athlette Advisory
Committee (SAAC) as a senior.
The awards will be formally presented in June at the Career in
Sports Forum and Loomer will attend the University of Central
Florida in the fall, where she will pursue her masters in Sports
Business Management.
