High Seeds Hold True in Northeast-10 Men’s Soccer Championship Quarterfinals

Top seeds Southern New Hampshire, Merrimack,
Southern Connecticut, Adelphi all advance to semis

The top four seeds in the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship all earned wins at home Tuesday night in quarterfinal action to cement their spots in Friday's semifinal round.

On Friday, top-seeded Southern New Hampshire will host fourth-seeded Adelphi University, while third-seeded Southern Connecticut State University will travel to second-seeded Merrimack College. Both games will kick off at 7:00 p.m.

#1 So. New Hampshire 5, #8 Saint Rose 0 | BOX
MANCHESTER, N.H. – The top-seeded Penmen scored three times in the first 27 minutes Tuesday night en route to their 5-0 win over eighth-seeded The College of Saint Rose. Pierre Omanga scored the game-winner in just the 12th minute, while Brian Francolini netted two goals in the second half. Golden Knights goalkeeper Colan Balkwell made 11 saves in net for Saint Rose, which was making its first-ever appearance in the Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship.

#2 Merrimack 2, #7 Bentley 0 | BOX
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. –
Merrimack's Douglas Searl (pictured) scored on a pass from Michael Rincon in the 54th minute to propel the Warriors to victory in a 2-0 win over seventh-seeded Bentley University Tueday night. The Warriors' Julio Leon Garcia added an unassisted tally late in the victory, and Merrimack goalkeeper Jose Silva stopped all five shots he faced for the shutout.

#3 Southern Connecticut 2, #6 Franklin Pierce 1 | BOX

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Josh Gustafson
broke a 1-1 tie in the 83rd minute to give the Owls a 2-1 victory Tuesday night over sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce University. All of the scoring came in the second half between the Owls and Ravens, as So. Connecticut's Daquan King scored the game's first goal before Franklin Pierce's Jared Raber tied it in the 69th minute. Owls goalkeeper Stephen Sasso made 11 saves on 12 shots in the win. However, Franklin Pierce will be advanced to the semifinal round as a result of So. Connecticut having used an ineligible student-athlete in the quarterfinal round.

#4 Adelphi 3, #5 Le Moyne 0 | BOX
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. –
John Sabal's unassisted goal at the 14-minute mark proved to be the game-winner in Adelphi's shutout victory over fifth-seeded Le Moyne College Tuesday night, marking the first-ever win for the Panthers in Northeast-10 Championship play, having reclassified to Division II at the beginning of this season. Caelan Hueber and Juan Agular also scored for the Panthers in the win, while goalkeeper Ahmad Salamah made a pair of saves.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
