Hampshire's Lupinelli both honored

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District ® Men's Soccer Team included a pair of Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes in Merrimack College sophomore Ronald Ried and Southern New Hampshire University sophomore Jonathan Lupinelli, it was recently announced.

The All-District Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Ried, a Business major, boasts a 3.80 GPA and was an instrumental component of a Merrimack defense that allowed just 10 goals 19 games this fall. He also added two goals and three assists for seven points. The Schwendi, Germany, native was a Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team choice this year, and an NSCAA All-East Region Third Team selection last year. 

Lupinelli, an International Business major, has been a mainstay for one of the nation's top defenses in 2013. The Mont de Marsan, France native has started all 19 games for the NCAA-bound Penmen, who have allowed just eight goals in 19 games, while also tallying seven points. Lupinelli was a Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team choice this year and a Daktronics Second Team All-America selection last season.

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively. 

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
